Your Crown Chakra

The crown chakra, or Sahasrara, is also known as the thousand petalled lotus. This center is found at the very top and center of the head.

The traditional Vedic symbol for Sahasrara can be seen to the right.

Associated Color: Purple

Associated Element: Void

Associated Physiological Region: Central nervous system and brain

The crown chakra represents pure consciousness, and is the center of our super-conscious minds. The Vedics taught that here we find universal consciousness and unity through transcendental consciousness.

Fully activating this chakra can take years of patient study in the esoteric arts. But anyone can benefit greatly from the pursuit of enlightenment through such practices as daily meditation, yoga, and constant mindfulness.

Channeling subtle energy into and through this chakra is beyond the scope of this simple Website. However we can recommend a very basic exercise you can benefit from.

Realizing Your Crown Chakra

Follow the steps below after completing your basic meditation. This will help you become aware of the crown chakra and can perhaps motivate you toward further study.

  1. Sit in a comfortable position with your back straight.
  2. Place the palm of your hand on the top center of your head. (use the hand that came to mind first)
  3. Go through your choice of breathing exercises, and be aware of this chakra as you inhale and exhale. See if you can feel the energy moving to this point.

Some people will experience exciting results with this simple exercise. Others will notice nothing at all.
